Accompanied by the original presentation box with presidential seal and facsimile signature of President Johnson, as well as a typed caption affirming that the pen was one of the “pens used by the President, October 2, 1965, in signing S. 4." This amendment, deemed the Water Quality Act, was one of several edits to the Federal Water Pollution Act, one of the United States' first and most influential modern environmental laws. The first FWPCA was enacted in 1948 but took on its modern form when completely rewritten in 1972; it’s now known as the Clean Water Act.
