Wonderful original vintage 1960s semi-glossy 9.5 x 11.75 silver gelatin photograph of John Lennon that was taken by Robert Whitaker in 1965. The image shows the Beatles musician in a front-facing head-and-shoulders pose with a cigarette held just below his chin. Reverse bears Agfa watermarks and is marked in the upper left corner, “BT 23.” In very good to fine condition, with scattered light creasing, and a short tear to the top edge. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.
Whitaker on his time with Lennon: 'It was John I felt quite at home with, and we got to be very friendly. We’d talk about Dali, Magritte or other painters. We used to paint together, discussing odd things—the solidity of objects here and in space. I think that one had a bit to do with LSD. I found John humorous, warm and very witty. His art—the drawings and poetry—is humorous and beyond belief. Very Spike Milligan, but also beautiful.'
