Original vintage semi-glossy 7.75 x 12.75 silver gelatin print of Marilyn Monroe by photographer Roy Schatt, which depicts Monroe seated next to actress Susan Strasberg at the Actors Studio, with the reverse bearing two Roy Schatt credit stamps. The photo’s detached mount is signed in black ink by Schatt and features credit stamps and a handwritten notation: “Susan Strasberg in the ‘A. S.’ with Marilyn Monroe. This photo in Strasberg’s book, ‘Marilyn and Me.’” In very good to fine condition, with creasing, primarily along the right side.
Born in New York City, Schatt (1909-2002) is remembered for his 'method photography' of personalities associated with The Actors Studio during the Lee Strasberg era, using natural light to capture likenesses of icons such as James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, and Steve McQueen in candid, unstaged settings. Schatt's work has been exhibited at the International Center of Photography in NYC, the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
