Description

Eminent Scottish poet (1777-1844) remembered for his didactic poem 'The Pleasures of Hope' and for his patriotic war songs. Unsigned handwritten poem by Thomas Campbell, three pages on two sheets, 4.5 x 7.25, no date. Campbell writes out a poem, headed: "Verses to Miss Prevost on being Accused." The poem concludes: "I hear you sneer in slander / Pig-stealing poetaster man / He died most like a dying swan / And lived most like a gander." Campbell sketches a swan at the conclusion. In very good to fine condition, with some scattered staining and a rusty circular paperclip impression to the top.
