Two items: an ALS signed "Benjamin Britten," four pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.75 x 8.25, Park Hotel letterhead, in part: "I was delighted to find the beautiful Vermeer book waiting for me in Köln & I do thank you both very sincerely. He is a painter I like a great deal & it is so good to have these fine reproductions…we give concerts tomorrow (28th) in Essen (Gr. Saal des Städt-Saalbaues) & Thursday (29th) in Dusseldorf (Robert Schumann Saal)—both at 8 p.m. Could you both come to one of these? I am sure we could get you tickets if you just arrive there—or you could let us know at the Park Hotel—Dusseldorf. It would be so nice to see you. Yes I do know Richter the pianist. He is a wonderful & sympathetic man, & a fabulous, if rather eccentric, pianist. He plays a lot with my great friend, the cellist Rostropovich, the best cellist I have ever heard. I am so glad you have heard & admire Richter. This comes with greetings from Peter Pears & myself"; and fountain pen signatures, "Benjamin Britten" and "Peter Pears," on a peach 3.75 x 2 album page, signed on the reverse by composer Arnold Bax. In fine condition.
