Handsome bronze memorial relief plaque featuring a raised relief image of George Washington profile, crowned with laurels, after the drawing by Charles Balthazar Julien Fevret de Saint-Memin. The plaque measures 10 x 12.75, and has a mounting loop on the reverse. In fine condition. Accompanied by a 1931 letter written to noted Washington descendant/collector W. Lanier Washington, in part: "Answering your favor, I beg to inform you that I have a bronze plaque of Washington by Houdon which Dr. Eisen as well as Mr. MacGurk verified its authenticity…If you are coming to New York this week, may I ask for an appointment?…I would very much like to see your collection." A typed draft of a response on the reverse states that he is only buying actual necessities, on account of the "stringency of the depression."
