Tony Glover's personally-owned circa 1960s Hemen #3 sitar with 11 plain taraf pegs, housed in its large original wooden carrying case. The neck bears the original "Hemen & Co / 140 Rashbehari Avenue" label. Includes a photograph of Tony Glover playing acoustic guitar alongside a sitarist, and a photo of Nikhil Banerjee imprinted on the reverse: "Greetings from the American Society for Eastern Arts." In very good condition, with some broken strings. Located in Kolkata, India, Hemen supplied handmade sitars to artists all over the world—in addition to local exponents of the instrument like Ravi Shankar, the shop counted George Harrison, Yehudi Menuhin, and Ian Anderson among its loyal customers. Tony Glover studied the sitar under Nikhil Banerjee, one of the leading sitarists of the era.
