Group lot of items relating to noted abolitionist and social reformer William Lloyd Garrison, including: a framed display from the archives of Upsala College containing a lock of hair from William Lloyd Garrison measuring 2″in length, a brown leather eyeglass case, 5.5 x 3, with gilt-impressed text, "Wm. Lloyd Garrison of Boston," and an ink signature, "Wm. Lloyd Garrison, 125 Highland St. Roxbury, Mass.," on an off-white 5 x 2.25 sheet, all of which are matted with a typed statement from Upsala College stating that “the artifacts displayed were donated to the college by Frances ‘Frank’ Garrison,” and framed to an overall size of 18.25 x 15.75. Also included is an ALS from his son and biographer Francis Jackson Garrison, signed “Frank J. Garrison,” one page, 4.75 x 8, in part: “I am glad you are enjoying the biography. I have not time to explain about the birth-date, but 1805 is right, & the town record is wrong, as I can soon show you if we meet. A letter of my grandfather’s, written in April 1805, before he had moved with his family to Newburyport, puts it beyond question.” The group lot also contains a first edition hardcover four-volume set of William Lloyd Garrison: The Story of His Life, Told by His Children published by The Century Co. of New York in 1885 and 1889, with an opening page of the second book signed and inscribed in ink, “To B. Drew, from his friends, William and Ellie Garrison, Oct. 1885.” In overall very good to fine condition, with wear to covers of books, including a split spine to the first volume.
