Though better known for his flamboyant dissemination of sensational 'yellow journalism,' Hearst's political aspirations led him to regularly run for political office: he was twice elected to Congress as a Democrat (1902 and 1904), and unsuccessfully ran for president (1904), mayor of New York (1905 and 1909), and governor of New York (1906).
