Renowned American artist (1889-1975) whose distinctive 'regionalist' style made him one of the most influential figures in American art during the 1930s and 1940s. Two ALSs: one signed "Thomas H. Benton," one page both sides, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, November 14, 1962, in part: "Many thanks for sending the clipping from 'Arizona Days and Ways.' I thought the article very good, and generally accurate except for the suggestions that I was a wild western horseman, herd rider etc. I haven't been astride anything more than a park horse since I was about sixteen years old…I'm practically a professional middle-westerner and I stick it out here right through the winter snows. Actually enjoy them. Also most of my work has been motivated by the life and scenes of the Missouri and Mississippi basins. Lately I have been moving westward but have yet done nothing on Arizona except a portrait of your desert artist Ted di Grazia"; and one signed "Thomas H. Benton," one page on a 5.5 x 3.5 postcard depicting his mural 'Independence and the Opening of the West,' December 1, 1965, in part: "Thanks for your letter of Oct. 23rd. Delay in replying—spent the autumn in Italy. Just returned. Best to you for the coming season." In overall very good to fine condition, with staple holes and a short fold split to the letter. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope for the letter addressed in Benton's hand.
