Description

British satirical cartoonist (1920-2011) who provided illustrations for a number of newspapers, magazines, and books. He is perhaps best remembered as the creator of St. Trinian's School and for his collaboration with Geoffrey Willans on the Molesworth series. Two items: a TLS, one page, 5 x 8, June 11, 1960, addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Browne, in part: "I am sending you a photograph of sorts, but I am afraid that all the originals of my drawings are with the Kraushaar Gallery in New York, where I exhibit: (1055 Madison Avenue NY, 28). Perhaps one day when you are on the east coast you might find something there which is not too exorbitantly expensive"; and a glossy 5.5 x 4 photo of Searle as a young cartoonist working at his desk, signed in black ink, "Sincerely, Ronald Searle, 1960." Reverse of photo bears a Camera Press Limited stamp. In overall fine condition, with light surface impressions at the top from typed notations on the reverse.
