Description

Presented by John Wayne during the filming of Rio Lobo

Extraordinary Winchester Centennial '66 Model 1894 carbine, serial #61475, presented by John Wayne to Old Tucson Studios founder Bob Shelton during the filming of Rio Lobo, engraved on the gold-plated receiver, "To Robert Shelton, From John Wayne, 1970." The lever-action carbine features a 20″ long heavy octagon barrel, caliber .30-30 Winchester. Designed to be reminiscent of their first product, the brass-framed Winchester 1866 'Yellow Boy,' this handsome firearm has a gold-plated receiver and forend cap, curved brass buttplate, saddle ring, and straight hand stock crafted from select walnut.

Accompanied by a color print of Wayne presenting this exact rifle to Shelton; a custom-made rustic wooden display stand; three framed photographs of Shelton with Wayne (including one showing Shelton presenting Wayne with a rifle, which prompted the later gift of this one to Shelton); and the dark green thick corduroy vest that Shelton is seen wearing in the latter image, which has an MGM Studio tag sewn into the back and was most likely part of the Old Tucson Studios wardrobe. These wonderful images of Wayne and Shelton together on the Old Tucson sets demonstrate their lasting friendship, as does the impressive engraved Winchester presented to Shelton as a token of gratitude by the icon of Western cinema.

This transfers as a modern firearm. Robert Shelton's Old Tucson Studios Collection
