Description

Superb collection associated with Anglo-French aviator and aircraft designer Henri Farman (1874-1958), who in 1908 completed the first 1-kilometer circuit to win the Grand Prix d'Aviation. Includes:

Four original vintage photographs, ranging in size from 4.5 x 3.25 to 6.5 x 4.5, showing Farman's first flight on a Voisin biplane at Issy-les-Moulineaux on October 26, 1907, in which he flew 771 meters.

A TLS in French, signed "H. Farman," one page, 8 x 9.5, October 19, 1907, to the secretary of l'Aero Club, stating that he spent 25 francs to compete.

A 1958 postcard issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Farman's one-kilometer flight to win the Grand Prix d'Aviation, signed on the front in ink by Farman, plus an original vintage 6.5 x 4.5 photograph of Farman in flight while winning the prize on January 13, 1908.

An original vintage 6.5 x 4.5 photograph of Farman and Ernest Archdeacon ready to take off at the first Belgian air meet in 1908.

Three original vintage 6.5 x 4.5 photographs of Farman in flight at the first international Reims air meet in August 1909.

An original vintage 6.5 x 4.5 photograph of his brother, Maurice Farman, on his biplane on December 10, 1909.

Three original vintage 6.5 x 4.5 photographs of Maurice Farman's biplane.

Four original vintage 6.5 x 4.5 photographs of Farman planes at the Paris Air Show in 1910-1911.

A carbon copy of a typed letter from "Avions Henri & Maurice Farman" to Marcel Riffard, dated July 4, 1909.

Six oversized original vintage photographs on 15 x 11.75 mounts, showing the 1909 Reims Air Meet (4), the 1909 Doncaster Aviation Conquest (1), and the 1909 Blackpool Air Meet (1). Photographs of this large size are very rare.

A gorgeous original 35 x 17.75 circa 1908 color lithograph of Farman's one-kilometer flight by Ernest Montaut, which has a few tears to the edges and is affected by several vertical bends.

In overall very good to fine condition.
