Description

ALS signed “Seth Leonard,” one page, 6 x 7.5, February 24, 1755. Written during the height of the French and Indian War, in full (spelling and grammar retained): “Leut. march Sir after my respects to you my a fairs to let you know when I inlisted I expected to recd my deed for a farm that I had boot but there is a bank upon it So that I can not take a deed att preasent and if I do not before I go I shall louse five hundred pounds So I desire you to let Capn Perry have my inlistment and take another that I have inlisted. I have a prospect of Six or Eight more & also of my going my Self for I want to go very much and I expect to get it don before you are imbarket & then I shall go with you and either of my brothers will go in my room before the man Should Cheet me out of the money. I scropel not of my going but for feare I could not get the adventge out of the mans hand I recall by the Same Reason." In very good to fine condition, with light soiling and staining.
