Description

Memories from Boston—lyrics, letters, and other ephemera

A collection of ephemera from Brad Delp’s ‘memory box,’ including posters, fan mail, and assorted other items. Highlights include: a scrap piece of paper featuring handwritten lyrics by Brad Delp, in full: “Every time I think about it (you) I have to cry / Yes I made a major mistake / Well I knew it was a matter of time / Most of what you said was a pack of lies / I guess that I was very unwise”; a five-page handwritten letter from Phil Bates of Trickster, postmarked November 13, 1979, in part: “I just thought I’d drop you a few lines to say ‘thanks’ & wish you well for the future. I’ve got to say it was a great tour from our point of view…I don’t know whether you’ve started the album yet, but if you have I hope it’s going well and you’re getting plenty to do…I hope you’re having better luck with your songwriting than I am, at the moment. I seem to have hit one of those patches where everything sounds the same…I’ve got to say it was good to find and talk to someone so much into the Beatles. Such people seem to be few and far between in my experience. They seem to have forgotten just how much they contributed to music…Although I love a lot of other music i.e. Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, there’s nothing that gives me that spinal chill like ‘Here, There and Everywhere,’ and ‘I’m Only Sleeping’ etc….It was such a pleasure to meet you and talk with you and I hope I get the chance to do so again.”

Other items include: more than 25 pieces of fan mail sent to Delp, mostly dating from late 1970s through early 1990s; two vintage candid photos; a WIUS Radio newsletter featuring an interview with Boston; newspaper clippings; an issue of The Beat, a New England entertainment guide, featuring an interview with Boston; a number of other newspapers and magazines; a rolled 20 x 16 composite photo featuring images from the 1995 Boston Livin’ For You Tour; a 2001 poster for a concert featuring a reunion of Delp’s high school band The Monks; eleven rolled 14 x 21 posters for a 2004 California Mid-State Fair concert series featuring Boston on August 5th; and a few condolence letters and cards sent to his family after his death. In overall very good to fine condition. From the Brad Delp Collection, and accompanied by a letter of provenance from Micki Delp. Due to the size, weight and/or fragility of this item, special care will be taken when shipping this item.  Please contact [email protected] for a quote.
