Brad Delp's 'writing tablet' notebook containing lyrics, notes on production, and sketches of a house, 6 x 9, consisting of seven pages of handwritten notes and four pages of sketches. The first page consists of song lyrics, headed, "Tuesday (written 4-28-83)," with the first verse reading: "Tuesday was the day you went away / Wednesday had to come, I cried all day / Thursday it was bad, it took all the strength I had / It's hard to face the thought of you not here." The next page has a short song summary listing sections and changes, in full: "Intro, Verse, Bridge, Verse with F#, Bridge, F# to B, Intro C to Bb 2nd time, Verse, Bridge, F# to B, Intro 3 times, then C to Bb." On the reverse of that page, Delp writes out some recording notes, in part: "Key A: Not a 2nd Time Tempo between 200 & 208, Rythm Guit Edge - Echo - Hamer Switch Up, Lead - Dist - Echo or Chorus - Hamer Switch Down. Key E: I just want to… Tempo 84, Guit. Dist. Chorus Switch Down, Mute 1st part open up on 2nd half of riff." The next page bears short notes on five takes.
After several blank pages, in the middle of the tablet, there is a page of handwritten notes on Beatles records, headed, "Revised Tapes," listing such classics as "Please Please Me," "With the Beatles," "Hard Day's Night," "Help," "Rubber Soul," "Revolver," "Sgt. Pepper," "Yellow Sub.," "Abbey Rd.," "Let It Be," and others. After several more blank pages there is another page headed "Tuesday," with various production notes concerning channels, trim, and faders. The last page of handwritten notes consists of lyrics entitled "Your Heart Can't Be Denied," beginning: "In your eyes, you're telling me it's time to let go (the truth) / And I've, tried to deny that look but it shows (you've tried) / I know you're trying so hard to be a friend (it's coming to an end) / but I can see that y(our) love is at an end / It's harder to pretend, than to stand and say / what you really feel." The following four pages features diagrams and sketches, apparently of a home and its interior. In very good to fine condition, with some staining and many pages detached. The song 'Tuesday' was never released by Delp, but his friend Charlie Farren released a cover of it in 2013. The other song seems to be both unpublished and unreleased, perhaps never making it beyond this notebook. A unique piece showcasing the creativity of Boston's amazingly versatile frontman.
