Description

Rare copy of a handwritten letter addressed by U2's Bono to Prince, three pages, 8.5 x 11, no date, but circa November 1987. In full (spelling and grammar retained): "We didn't make it to the movie last night feel like we are falling apart at the seams—6 months on the road to everywhere—lost my voice but not my reason….I hope. We love you and your records and though we are very different we share the same 'spirit' 3 chords and the truth?? (whatever that is?) I was dissapointed at not speaking to you directly around the time of the Amnesty International tour and would have loved to seen you over the last new night concerts/movie etc. What your doing in Minneapolis and Paisley Park feels close to what U2 are doing in Dublin and in our record label 'Mother' it sure is a fun thing to divert attention away from Hollywood NY London etc Halleluiah here we come…as our Father say, 'to be as schrewd as a serpent and as innocent as a dove.' God Bless you and your people. Bono and U2, please tell Sheila E of the 4 hearts she has broken…(I wrote this in the back of a car I hope you can read it…)." In fine condition. From the collection of Prince’s former assistant. At the time Bono wrote this letter, U2 were playing two shows at the St. Paul Civic Center on November 3 and 4, 1987, the same period the band were busy preparing to film their Rattle and Hum Documentary.
