Description

Fantastic 'Pinhead' costume worn on stage by roadie Mitch 'Bubbles' Keller during several Ramones concerts. The light fabric dress is yellow and covered with red polka dots, and features a large collar with yellow-and-green interior stripes with two Velcro attachments. In very good to fine condition, with overall scattered soiling and a few tiny tears. Accompanied by three photos of the dress being worn on stage next to Joey Ramone. This was displayed as part of the “Hey! Ho! Let’s Go: Ramones and the Birth of Punk” exhibit at the Queens Museum in New York from April 10, 2016-July 31, 2016, and the Grammy Museum at L.A. Live from September 16, 2016-February 28, 2017. From the Monte A. Melnick Ramones Collection. Inspired by the wardrobe worn by sideshow performer Schlitzie in Tod Browning's classic 1932 film Freaks, and Bill Griffith's comic strip Zippy the Pinhead, this colorful dress was worn by Keller whenever the Ramones performed the song 'Pinhead,' a track from their second studio album Leave Home. Traditionally, Keller would emerge on the stage wearing the dress, a Schlitzie mask, and holding a sign reading 'Gabba Gabba Hey.' He would then hand the sign to Joey Ramone and perform what was later deemed as 'the jerk dance.' Along with their Presidential Seal, the pinhead motif remains an iconic Ramones symbol.
