Scarce 'souvenir' winner's medal issued for the Los Angeles 1932 Summer Olympics. Silver-plated bronze, 55 mm, 72 gm, by Giuseppe Cassioli. The front, inscribed, "Xth Olympiad, Los Angeles, 1932," features a 'Seated Victory' with the Coliseum in the background; the reverse portrays a winner carried by jubilant athletes. Edge engraved "Souvenir." A small number of spare medals were produced for the Xth Olympiad to be awarded in the rare instance of a tie or draw. Those remaining after the fact were engraved with the word "Souvenir" and bestowed to select high-ranking officials and various others. A considerably rare LA Olympics medal.
