Exceedingly rare printed invitation for a “Polk and Dallas Ball,” one page, 5 x 8, to be held at the Oak Tree Hotel in Raymond, Mississippi, on December 20, 1844. The name of the recipient is written on the reverse, “Mrs. A. G. Brown.” In very fine condition. Polk had emerged as the dark horse candidate in what was one of the most closely contested elections in American history, and it was in Mississippi that the Polk–Dallas ticket had found one of its greatest margins of victory.
