Pair of well-worn Confederate brogans that have had several repairs and re-soles over what looks to have been a rather tough career. The heels of the leather shoes are quite worn, and even partially crumbled away on the right shoe. The extent of the work done to the soles is attested to by the different cobbler's nails used in successive repairs. The leather uppers are in fairly good shape, but quite stiff with age. Both shoes look as though they were purposely cut open during their period of use, possibly in an effort to achieve a better fit. A small inventory sticker is present on the toe of the right shoe on which is written: "Confederate/Shoes/Chambersburg/Penn.," in faded ink. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from The Horse Soldier in Gettysburg.
