Medium-sized carbine cartridge box constructed of dark brown bridle leather, measuring approximately 7.5 x 3 x 2, with an internal wooden block designed to hold twenty cartridges. Retains its scalloped outer cover flap and shaped inner cover with legible contractor’s marking on the lip of the inner cover, “Made by J. I. Pittman, N. Y.” Includes ten Spencer rimfire cartridges and a single Burnside cartridge. Leather has some overall cracking and flaking along the surface, most noticeably along the outer cover which also has a distinct diagonal fold on the left corner where the trooper would lift the flap to access the cartridges inside. The closure tab on the outer cover and one of the japanned shoulder belt buckles on the bottom of the box are no longer present, and the cover flaps tend to stay opened and upright due to the method by which the box was displayed. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the General Lee's Headquarters Museum, a photograph of the museum display case, and the plaque used in the display.
