Menu for an American Airlines flight from San Francisco to New York, measuring 15 x 11 open, signed and inscribed on the right side in black ballpoint, “To Marlene, Howdy! Jerry Garcia.” Collector’s pencil notations date the signature to November 5, 1991. In fine condition, with trivial bends and surface impressions. Consignor notes that the signature was obtained after a friend observed the Grateful Dead frontman boarding their plane. After a bit of goading, the two friends, menus in hand, approached a reclined Garcia. After willingly signing the first, Garcia, according to the consignor, “looked questioningly at me through his beard and waited for me to say something. I couldn’t think of anything and blurted out, ‘I love your ice cream.’ He looked at me, blinked, and signed the menu.” Pre-certified REAL.
