The Rowe Family

Two letters concerning the Rowe family’s service in the Civil War, both displayed such that only the first page is shown: first is a letter by E. W. Belton, 8 x 9.75, in part: “It is with the deepest regret that the task should fall upon me to inform you of the death of your Brother James…James was taken sick the day we arrived at Washington & was taken to the hospital…the next we heard from him was that he was dead”; second is by A. D. J. Hastings, 5 x 7.75, January 28, 1865, in part: “It is with deep regret that I write you these lines in regards to the death of your Son John P. Rowe…of the Typhoid Fever.” Double-matted and framed with transcripts as well a Union Prisoners of War Association booklet, ribbon, and news clipping to an overall size of 30 x 26.5. In overall very good condition, with a few tears to edges. Oversized.
