Small circular relic made of wood from the grounds of Washington’s Mount Vernon estate, measuring 3.25″ in diameter, bearing an encapsulated engraved portrait of Washington and his mansion on the front and a label affixed to the reverse, reading: “Washington, D.C., 14th Nov. 1859, I hereby certify that the picture-frame stamped From Mount Vernon, J. Crutchett, (to which this is attached), was manufactured at the ‘Mount Vernon Factory’ from wood grown at Mount Vernon, the home and resting-place of the immortal George Washington.” It mentions additional certificates, no longer present, from the proprietor of Mount Vernon John A. Washington, and the mayor of Washington, DC. In very good condition, with the encapsulated engraving on the front detached but easily repairable, and general wear and toning to the descriptive label on the reverse.
