(Winsor McCay, 1914) Original production drawing featuring Gertie and Winsor McCay from Gertie the Dinosaur, showing McCay beside Gertie with a whip in his hand. Accomplished in ink on 8.5 x 6.5 rice paper and affixed to a slightly larger mount. In fine condition, show-through from adhesive at edges. McCay drew himself into the film’s finale—he walks onto the screen and cracks his whip, at which Gertie obediently places him on her back. Together they walk off camera. A rare and wonderful piece representing the animator and his creation.
