John Fremont

Prominent American explorer, military officer, and politician (1813–1890) who mapped the Oregon Trail, played a prominent part in conquering California during the Mexican War, and ran in 1856 as the first Republican presidential candidate. Ink signature, “J. C. Fremont, Maj. Genl Commdg,” on an off-white 2.75 x 1 slip clipped from a letter or document. Matted and framed with a small portrait of Fremont to an overall size of 9 x 11. In fine condition, with closely trimmed edges and some scattered light soiling. RR Auction COA.
