Partly-printed document, one page, 7.5 x 9.5, May 13, 1912. Titanic 'Account of Wages' document for Edneser Edward Wheelton, who worked on the vessel as a saloon steward with the Victualling Crew. Document is stamped with the ship's name, "Titanic," date of engagement, "10 APR 1912," and date of discharge, "15 APR 1912." The remaining areas are filled out in a clerical hand, including "Name of Master: E. J. Smith" and "Name of Seaman: E. Wheelton," and a tally of his wages, adding a bonus to his earnings from six days of work for a total of £4. Intersecting folds, scattered creases, and light soiling, otherwise fine condition. Wheelton awoke upon the late-night collision and immediately began helping to load passengers into lifeboats, afterward joining lifeboat 11 himself. After arriving home in Southampton, he continued to work at sea through the 1920s. Of the nearly 900 members of the Titanic crew, only 215 survived, making this type of document quite rare.
