Description

The ‘Father of Prison Reform’ identifies facts “confirmative of the theory of existence of the science of Telepathy”

Penologist (1827–1920) regarded as the ‘Father of Prison Reform’ who introduced the concept of parole to the American justice system. ALS signed “Z. R. Brockway,” three pages, 8.5 x 11, October 27, 1918. Letter to a gentleman. In part: “The editorial 'Please' in your paper of the 24th at hand duly by your favor, in which you so generously mention the undersigned I now beg to acknowledge with assurance of due appreciation. It is only a few days ago when I was making inquiries about your decisions to bring to the clear consciousness the feeling of friendship particularly the product of our familiar friendly intercourse when you were living here: is not this fact and the fact of your kind courtesy now again confirmative of the theory of existence of the science of Telepathy? I am glad thus to get into renewal of the former closer connection with you. I would like to Know, if you can and would tell me, more about you and yours these days after so long a suspension of the former communication. I myself am shut in not suffering painfully but because of the infirmities of my old age: I am living in the early years of my 10th decade.” Intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature) and ink erosion to letters in a few words (including a small area to first letter of signature), otherwise fine condition.
