Description

New York 1790

Lengthy unsigned hand-written speech, 10 pages, both sides, 6.5 x 8, circa 1790. A speech attributed to Brockholst Livingston, given in front of the president and other notables in St. Paul’s chapel in New York City on the occasion of the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Speech begins, “The day which we have assembled to commemorate, is one of the most illustrious in the annals of our Country: it exhibits to our views, the successful termination of a revolution, which has been as beneficial in its consequences, as it was glorious in its progress.” Central vertical fold, tears along left edge, and a small separation to center of most of the pages, not affecting legibility, otherwise very good condition.
