Influential businessman (1914–1993) who was the second president of IBM. TLS signed “Tom,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, July 9, 1979. Letter to General Maxwell Taylor regarding Watson’s nomination to be ambassador to the Soviet Union. In part: “It may seem strange that one could look forward with satisfaction to an assignment in the Soviet Union, which is to some a foreboding place. However, having been there many times in the past and realizing that Soviet-American relations are far and above the most important international relations the United States has, it would be a great challenge to represent our country in Moscow.” Watson has included a nice personal postscript at the bottom of the page as well. In fine condition. RR Auction COA.
