Rare twice-signed carte-de-visite

Army surgeon and Union general (1829–1892) who was on duty during the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter to start the Civil War and later led troops in support of Col. Strong Vincent at Little Round Top. Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite bust portrait of Crawford in uniform by Rockwood of New York, signed at the bottom of the image in black ink, “S. W. Crawford, Bt. Maj. Genl,” and signed and inscribed on the reverse, “To Benj. J. Lossing, with the respects of Sam’l Crawford.” Overall spotting to image, otherwise fine condition. RR Auction COA.
