In part: “I enclose a photographic likeness of myself taken by the younger Mr. Powers since I came to this place. The grimness of the original has not been softened by that faithful limner the sun, but I hope you may believe, from what you have seen of me that the features are capable sometimes of a less harsh expression.” Letter is affixed to a slightly larger off-white sheet.
