Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Pioneering feminist (1815–1902) who, at the first women’s rights convention in Seneca Falls, New York, in 1848, presented her ‘Declaration of Sentiments,’ outlining her view of the rights and aims of American women and contributing in no small part to the adoption of women’s suffrage more than half a century later. ALS, two pages, 5.5 x 9, January 30. Letter to “Mr. Rockwood.” In part: “The bearer of this is the girl who took the last picture of me to your gallery. I want to see if she can identify the person to whom she gave it. We are very desirous to get one for an article in a magazine. I sent you the original again yesterday. If the other cannot be found will you try again & when you get a good one strike off half a dozen small sized photographs.” In fine condition, with a few trivial creases. RR Auction COA.
