Two TLSs to former congressman Harry B. Hawes: one TLS signed “G.C. Marshall,” War Department letterhead, June 25, 1940, thanking him for a gift: “Please accept my thanks for sending the artistic Bill of Rights scroll to me. The presentation in bold letters is a forceful reminder to those fortunate enough to live under such ideals;” and one similar TLS signed “C.W. Nimitz, Rear Admiral, USN,” Navy Department letterhead, dated June 26, 1940, in part: “I wish to acknowledge with thanks and appreciation the receipt of a copy of the Bill of Rights which you so kindly sent me and which I will keep in my Library of valuable papers.” In overall fine condition, with mild toning and penciled office notations to both.
