War of 1812: Lewis Warrington

US naval officer (1782–1851) who distinguished himself as commander of the USS Peacock during the War of 1812 and briefly served as the secretary of the navy. LS signed “L. Warrington,” one page, lightly-lined, 7.75 x 9.5, May 21, 1844. Letter to Mr. Fred Dodge. In full: “Be pleased to inform the Board, upon what terms, you will agree to deliver at the Navy Yard at New York, one hundred & forty barrels of kiln dried super fine flour; the delivery to be made on or before the 15 June next, & to be in good shipping order, & to pass the inspection at that yard.” Scattered wrinkling, show-through from tape remnants on reverse, a ding to the right edge, and a couple pencil notations, otherwise fine condition.
