Appointed a brigadier general when the Civil War broke out, Jackson (1824–1863) organized a brigade of Virginians who fought at the first Battle of Bull Run. It was there that the unit was described as standing its ground like a ‘stone wall,’ and the name forever became attached to Jackson. Hours after victories at Fredricksburg and Chancellorsville, Jackson was accidentally shot by one of his own men and died eight days later. Jackson’ in the bottom left corner and one featuring an equestrian statue of General George Washington before the Confederate flag on the left, with two ink signatures at the bottom. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, light toning, and wrinkling. Notes like this one were manufactured in Richmond, Virginia towards the end of the confederacy in 1864, and Jackson was the only Confederate general to appear on such currency. RRAuction COA.
