Description

Robert A. Millikan

Nobel Prize–winning physicist who was the first to isolate the electron and measure its charge. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, California Institute of Technology letterhead, February 11, 1947. In part: “I am writing to thank you for taking the trouble to write an appreciative letter of the part I had in that little pamphlet issued by the American Weekly. The men who were interrogated as to their views I think were pretty largely ignorant of one another’s reaction to that request…I think the public generally thinks that scientists generally adhere to philosophical materialism, but no one of these six takes at all that sort of position.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, scattered toning, pencil notations to lower left corner, and signature light, but legible. RRAuction COA.
