Comprehensive list of participating notables from Wilkes-barre general election, 1790

Postmaster general, secretary of war, and secretary of state under Washington (1745–1829). ADS, one page, 6.75 x 8.25, October 12, 1790. Written entirely by Pickering, with a second signature in the body. In full: “A listing of Judges, Inspection & Clerks of the general election at Wilkes-barre, for Wilkes-barre District, on the 12th day of October A. D. 1790. Inspectors: John Paul Scott, sworn, and Christopher Hurlbus, sworn; Judges: Timothy Pickering, sworn, William Hooker Smith, sworn, and John Hurlbus, sworn; Clerks: Jchorida Johnson, sworn, and James Sutton, affirmed.” Signed at the conclusion by Pickering and Smith, “Judges of the Election.” In very good condition, with scattered creasing, light irregular toning, areas of separation to the mailing folds, three small tack holes below the signatures, a few small tears to the top edge, and reparative tape along one of the folds on the reverse. This document was signed just one year before President Washington would appoint Pickering commissioner to the Iroquois Indians. RRAuction COA.
