Wife of Winston Churchill (1885–1977). TLS signed “Clementine S. Churchill,” one page, 7.5 x 9.5, 10 Downing Street letterhead, October 17, 1940. Churchill writes to Monsieur Torres, in full: “I am so very sorry to receive your sad letter, and I do hope that events may turn out less badly than from what you tell me they are likely to do. I wish so much that I had been able to help you.” In very good condition, with central horizontal and vertical fold, one passing through a single letter of the signature, uniform toning with a few darker areas, and three circular mounting remnants along the top border.
