Two original pencil and watercolor costume sketches from the film Wives and Lovers, on individual off-white 14 x 17 sheets. First sketch depicts a costume for Martha Hyer, with several notations in Head’s hand, including “last brown before sc.,” and signed “Edith”; second depicts an elegant costume for Claire Wilcox, with Head adding, “Hair change,” “fix gloves,” and “boots go with.” Second sketch is not signed. Expected scattered creasing, wrinkling and rippling and rough top edges, otherwise fine condition. Excellent ‘hands-on’ examples from the designer, Head would garner one of her 35 Academy Award nominations for her work on this film. RRAuction COA.
