An excerpt from We Seven, entitled “My Interest in Flying.” In part: “My interest in flying was apparently bred into me…My father did not push me into flying. But we were very close, and I had such complete respect for him that I wanted to be just like him…I was flying Dad’s plane by the time I was fifteen. I never got to solo in it, however. Dad loaned the plane to a friend of his one day, and the friend pranged the plane into the ground and broke it to pieces. I never got to solo, as a matter of fact, until I joined the navy and started flight training.” Page also bears three commemorative postage stamps, a First Day of Issue stamp, and an August 2, 1971 Houston, Texas cancellation.
