TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Senate letterhead, June 8, 1959. In a letter to an author, Johnson writes, in full: “I cannot tell you how really pleased I am that your new book is receiving such a wonderful reception. It is a real pleasure to know that your hard work over so many years is receiving such wonderful recognition. I have taken up with the White House the possibility of arranging an appointment for you to make a presentation of your new book to the President in connection with the centennial celebration this year. I regret to have to tell you that it will not be possible to make such an arrangement for the reason set forth in the copy of a letter which I have received.” In very good condition, with scattered creasing and rippling, light staining, a staple mark to the top left corner, and a horizontal fold passing through the bottom portion of the signature.
