Norwegian explorer (1872–1928) who navigated the Northwest Passage, fixed the position of the North Magnetic Pole, and was the first to reach the South Pole. Amundsen disappeared during a flight to rescue fellow explorer Umberto Nobile who became lost returning from the North Pole. Large ink signature, “Roald Amundsen,” on an off-white 4.5 x 3.5 card.
