Description

The great Sci-Fi artist shows promise as a 1940s high school art student

Fantasy and science fiction artist (1928–2010), noted for work in comic books, paperback book covers, paintings, posters, album covers and other media. Two of Frazetta’s school report cards. The first is from Abraham Lincoln High School, 10.5 x 9.5, circa 1946, detailing his various grades (consistently scoring the highest in art). The second, 8 x 15, is his grade school attendance record, also grading his personality an “A” and his work a “B+” average. Both cards are double sided, with his full family name, “Frank A. Frazzetta,” printed at the top. The first card is signed at the bottom in fountain pen, “Frank Frazzetta,” in the space reserved for the pupil’s signature. In overall fine condition.

Born in Brooklyn, Frazetta began drawing at an early age and showed great promise, with his parents enrolling him in the Brooklyn Academy of Fine Arts when he was 8 years old. Later, at Abraham Lincoln High School, a teacher name Paul Grubman heavily influenced the young artist and, based on Frazetta’s grades and innate abilities, fought to win him recognition in scholastic competitions. This marks the first time we have offered anything signed by Frazetta, made even more desirable by the original spelling of his name.
