US Marine Corps general (1897–1955) who was awared the Medal of Honor, two Navy Crosses, the Silver Star, and two Legions of Merit. He is best known by Marines for the defense of Lunga Ridge during the Guadalcanal Campaign in World War II. He committed suicide in 1955 while serving as Executive Director of the NRA. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 cardstock photo of Edson in military dress, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Lyford Hutchins—One of the most loyal Marines and patriotic American citizens I have been privileged to know. Merritt Edson.” In very good condition, with moderate crazing to the emulsion, several vertical creases with some through the signatuare, a couple of surface scratches, and staining to the lower right corner.
