Description

"This is NOT a wig I tell you. Let go-I want my ear back!"

Twenty items: Interesting Hollywood archive from the film actress sent to a single collector, consisting of 14 photos (most glossy 8 x 10); four ALSs, a photocopy of a 1986 New York Post front page announcing James Cagney's death, and a three-page draft of an article with numerous handwritten corrections from Clarke. The photographs are inscribed with lengthy thoughts, and two carry a lengthy note on the reverse. Among the more interesting comments is a scene from the 1933 film Lady Killer as Cagney pulls at her hair: "This is NOT a wig I tell you. Let go-I want my ear back!" Another comment on a photo of the famous grapefruit scene in 1931's Public Enemy reads: "What can I tell you? It was wet!" Another photo from Frankenstein is signed and inscribed on the front "From Mae Clarke, U.S.A, 'Elizabeth' betrothed to Doctor F. (Colin Clive U.K)" and has a lengthy and interesting commentary on the reverse discussing the film. The ALSs, from the mid-1980s, discuss her career, co-stars, and family. In overall very good to fine condition. An eclectic display. RRAuction COA.
