German-American photographer and photojournalist (1898–1995) best known for his image of the famous V-J Day kiss in Times Square. TLS signed 'Alfred Eisenstaedt,' one page, 7.25 x 11, LIFE magazine letterhead, February 10, 1981. In part: 'When I read your lines, I realized again how lucky and fortunate I am to have chosen the profession as a photographer at the right time when photojournalism as a new phenomenon was born in Germany in the late twentieth. In photography there is no language barrier so I could begin to work in this country when LIFE Magazine was born in 1936.
