TLS, one page, 5.75 x 8.25, personal letterhead, July 18, 1986. Simenon writes Steve Juscik of Indiana. In part: “I wish to thank you for the interest you show in my works, and I take pleasure in answering your—perfectly logical—questions. I am a bit like your abstract painter who collects Oriental art…when I abandoned the ‘potboiler literature,’ I ceased to read novels. In the one part, I did not want to be influenced. In the other part, if a novel had struck me as extraordinary I would have considered it was not worth my while writing, and I would have lost confidence in myself. Moreover, if a successful novelist had appeared mediocre in my opinion, I could have felt quite conceited.” In fine condition. Great insight into the author’s mind. RRAuction COA.
