Description

Berlin writes of God Bless America: “I don't think any song I have ever written has given me as much satisfaction as this one”

TLS, one page, 6 x 6.75, personal letterhead, July 22, 1940. Berlin references one of his most iconic works in a response to Nathan Straus. In part: “It was very kind and thoughtful of you to send me that nice letter about GOD BLESS AMERICA. I need not tell you how happy I am over its success and I don’t think any song I have ever written has given me as much satisfaction as this one.” Double-matted with a glossy photo to an overall size of 11 x 20. A few creases, wrinkles, and soiling, and his first name and part of his last name extremely light due to irregular ink adhesion or reduced ink flow, otherwise fine condition. Simply incredible content as the composer directly references an American anthem. RRAuction COA.
